This month we begin with Kitchen Confidential, Anthony Bourdain’s striking debut.
The last foodie-lit book that I read was Stanley Tucci’s memoir, Taste. Tucci recalls various important times in his life and how food played a role.
Similar is Luisa Weiss’s memoir, My Berlin Kitchen. Weiss has an Italian mother (who lived in Berlin) and an American father, who lived in Boston. Weiss was born in Germany, and like Tucci, she writes about significant memories and the recipes that go with them.
My next link is based on title alone – Berlin: Portrait of a City Through the Centuries by Rory MacLean. I have had this book in my TBR stack for eons – I must get to it!
Thinking of biographies in terms of cities, Richard Fidler’s comprehensive history of Prague, The Golden Maze, comes to mind.
Linking again on title, I jump to The Golden Bowl by Henry James. Despite having read much of James’s work, I know very little about his life. There are a few historical novels that cast James as a character, one of which I have in my reading stack – The Master by Colm Tóibín.
