It’s time for #6degrees. Start at the same place as other wonderful readers, add six books, and see where you end up.
This month we begin with the novella, Seascraper, by Benjamin Wood.
The descriptions of the shore and tides in Seascraper were exquisite. I’m hoping for similarly outstanding writing when I pick up a book that’s in my ‘must read this year’ stack – The Place of Tides by James Redbanks.
Also in this stack (there are ten books in the stack – will I get there before the year is out?) is another with a watery title – All the Way to the River by Elizabeth Gilbert.
The cover of Gilbert’s book reminded me immediately of Lily King’s Euphoria. I read it years ago and loved it.
Coincidentally, also in the ‘read it before 2025 is out’ is Lily King’s latest, Heart the Lover.
One of the characters in Heart the Lover appeared in her last novel, Writers & Lovers.
Using ‘lovers’ as a theme, I recently read a sample of Esther Freud’s My Sister and Other Lovers (which coincidentally is also the continuation of characters introduced in an earlier novel).
