Why I have it: Spotted on the Irish Book Awards 2021 shortlist.
Summary: Beth Crowe, ex-competitive swimmer, begins university and is ready to forge a new identity – but it begins with discovering her family’s secret past.
I’m thinking: No (although it would be easy to be seduced by the cover).
Funkytown by Paul Kennedy
Why I have it: Spotted on a ‘best of Australian literature 2021’ list.
Summary: 1993: Paul Kennedy is focused on finishing school, getting drafted into the AFL and falling in love. But the year ends with Kennedy expelled, arrested and undrafted. A teacher sees Kennedy self-destructing, and becomes determined to set him on another path.
I’m thinking: Yes.
