Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye.
After Claude by Iris Owens
Why I have it: Mentioned in a NYT article.
Summary: Harriet is leaving her boyfriend Claude. That at least is how Harriet sees things, even if it’s Claude who has just asked Harriet to leave his Greenwich Village apartment. Well, one way or another she has no intention of leaving. She will stay and exact revenge.
I’m thinking: Yes.
Idol, Burning by Rin Usami
Why I have it: Because of Madame Bibi’s review.
Summary: Teenager Akari is obsessed with ‘oshi’ Masaki Ueno, a member of a popular J-Pop group. She writes a blog devoted to him, and spends hours scrolling for information about him. When rumors surface that her idol assaulted a female fan, social media explodes. Akari immediately begins sharing every detail on her blog, drawing readers eager for updates. But the organized, knowledgeable persona Akari presents online is totally different from the socially awkward person she is in real life. As Masaki’s situation spirals, his troubles threaten to tear apart her life too.
I’m thinking: Yes.
Everything is Water by Simon Cleary
Why I have it: Not sure.
Summary: When Cleary sets off to follow the course of the Brisbane River, he hopes that by walking its banks – from its source to where it empties into the bay – he will better understand the power and impact of this immense waterway on the environment and communities who rely on it. But his journey threatens to be cut short by one of the wettest autumn months on record. Over four eventful weeks and 344 kilometres we are witness to the river in all its beauty and fury.
I’m thinking: Maybe.
