Book (but the TV series was really, really, really good and you should absolutely watch it). Because:
- it was meatier in terms of issues. There were three major plot points that weren’t even touched in the TV series, and each of these gave context to the things happening in Dolly’s life (so really, we need a S2….).
- writing about feelings always tells me more than someone staring wistfully into the camera…
- The importance of Dolly’s love for her friends is a slower reveal in the book than it is in the TV series, and I liked that because her understanding of that love is given context (in the TV series, it’s the starting point).
- The book made me cry, and I love a good cry.
Books are usually better, too much gets cut from film and TV
I agree. I make a point of always reading the book first.
