It’s Nonfiction November, this week hosted by Julz Reads. The task? Pair up a nonfiction book with a fiction title.
Charismatic fraudsters living the high-life – My Friend Anna by Rachel DeLoache Williams and The Talented Mr Ripley by Patricia Highsmith.
Three’s a crowd (stories about complicated relationships) – Wild Game by Adrienne Brodeur and Very Nice by Marcy Dermansky.
For layered stories that examine finding a ‘diagnosis’, and the complexity of the mother-child relationship – Unlike the Heart by Nicola Redhouse and Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason.
Introverts pushing their boundaries – Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want to Come by Jessica Pan and Eggshells by Caitriona Lally.
Before the fall of The Wall – Stasiland by Anna Funder and Confession with Blue Horses by Sophie Hardach.
Thanks to ‘Books are my favourite and best’, I’ve just discovered you and your challenge. I love this week’s thoughtful idea, and will have to cogitate a bit and see what I can come up with. I’ve read Stasiland, so am interested in reading the Sophie Hardach now. Thanks!.
Whoops! I’ve put the comment on the wrong blog! Still, you can see that you’ve made a convert!
Big fan of Stasiland and I have the Hardach on my TBR .
Nice pairings – especially Eggshells!
I noticed you sneaked in another mention of Stasiland. You’re determined that we should read this aren’t you😋
Oh, I love “Sorry I’m Late” and I’m so glad to find it on another booklist. Will definitely check out Eggshells. And I see even Mr. Ripley found a pairing 🙂
Love Wild Game + Very Nice…perfect combination!
Here’s mine: https://happiestwhenreading.com/2020/11/09/fiction-nonfiction-pairings/
Totally intrigued by My Friend Anna. Thanks for participating!
I’ve heard of the first two, the rest are new to me. “Sorry I’m late, I didn’t want to come” is totally something i would be thinking (but never dare to say out loud!) I like the themes you chose, makes for interesting pairings.
What a great concept (fiction & nonfiction pairing). I look forward to trying it out some other year. (I don’t have enough mental energy to give it a try right now.)
This is a cool meme! I’d be hopeless at it though, I’m just not familiar enough with non-fiction!
Terrific pairings Kate
Really clever Kate!
Oo those introvert books speak to me! Thanks for sharing!
Ooh, I would love to read a nonfiction book like the Talented Mr. Ripley! What a story. And I’ve already been interested in Sorry I’m Late, but I’d not heard of Eggshells. Excited to check it out 🙂
The comp of Very Nice to Wild Game really makes me want to read it!
I’ve read Sorry I’m Late…now I’m on to Eggshells.
I’m all for books on introverts! I’ve heard of Jennifer Pan’s book but not Eggshells – will need to look it up.
I never want to come, but I’m never late, not if I can help it anyway. You read so many books that I don’t or haven’t (including Stasiland) that I have nothing else to say.
Ha! See, I always want to go (and I’m not late) but I’m surrounded by introverts, so found the insight interesting.
What do I have to say to convince you to read Stasiland? It’s very, very good.
