01. This whale that my daughter stitched for me (because “I thought you might like a whale”).
02. Patrick Radden Keefe and David Grann’s fascinating conversation about the art of writing true crime.
03. Planning my reading for #20BooksOfSummer.
04. The release of Rodham by Curtis Sittenfeld (I’ve been waiting for this since I heard her talk about it at last year’s Broadside Festival).
05. Fleischer Black Forest Cake (I always forget just how good it is until I take a bite).
06. Windmill socks.
07. Melbourne Food & Wine Festival, ‘reimagined’ – hello Lune, hello Mr Bianco.
08. Nutella self-saucing pudding (I rarely make desserts but with extra lockdown time on my hands….).
Needless to say, I’ve bookmarked that pudding recipe. Thank you, Kate!
If you already have hazelnut meal, it’s very quick to make.
That is such a good whale!! Hope you’re well! <3
He’s a sweet whale and has taken up residence on my bookshelf.
I am super happy today because I have new bookshelves…
it won’t last, but at least for today, every book in the house has got a home on a shelf.
Glorious! The last time I got a new bookshelf (many years ago), I filled it almost immediately.
Ah, yes, we’ve done that… this was replacing shelves that were all double shelved, but I predict that….
That whale is awesome! I’m so impressed at your daughter’s skills.
She got an overlocker for Christmas and, although it means nothing to me because I don’t sew, an overlocker is a ‘game-changer’.
Ooh. I’ve seen overlockers on the Great British Sewing Bee, (I’m a vicarious sewer). They are a game-changer!
“I thought you might like a whale” – I love it!
Choosing the 20 Books of Summer is the best, isn’t it? (Often better than reading them!)
I’ve petitioned the UK publicist for a copy of Rodham: a PDF, a proof, whatever; I don’t care. I must have it!
I’ll change my 20 Books list a dozen times before I post it, and even then I’ll leave a few spots free.
I’d also requested an ARC of Rodham but couldn’t wait, and bought it last week.
I’m not sure about Rodham. HC is a deeply conservative woman who just happens to be a Democrat. Still, an alternative history for a living and well known person is certainly an interesting idea.
My daughter, well into her teens, made me truck cushions for my back. I still have them twenty years later.
I agree about Rodham – it’s a really interesting idea. I’ve started it today – the fact that it’s written in the first person is making I even more interesting.
Does your daughter know you till use the cushions?
Yes, they’re on the couch in the lounge room.
omg i love the whale 🐋🐋🐋🐋
It’s so sweet.
I am glad that your 20 Books of Summer planning is making you happy. Me too, but also being driven mad by the fact that I can’t decide on my final pile!
I won’t lock in my final list until a day or two before the start – it will be a mood-driven list.
Good plan Kate. I think I’ve chosen mine now. Finally.
Oh I am so hungry right now…!!
Quick, whip up a Nutella pudding!
🙂 🙂 🙂
That sock collection definitely brought me some smiles. Just have to decide if I want the flamingo ones or the Dutch collection.
I love their socks, and the Dutch collection is making me very happy.
That pudding!!
IKR?! Certainly got the thumbs-up from my family.
That pudding looks incredible! As does the cute little whale. Lovely post, really enjoyed reading this morning ☺️
My weekly ‘gratitude journal’ during lockdown 🙂
Oh, that Nutella thing… Oh… I think I just gained 5 kilo thinking about it! Good thing I almost never keep Nutella in the house!
Mind you, I did bookmark the recipe!
Good, just in case you happen to have some Nutella in the house…
Maybe don’t serve it with ice cream… 😉
Excuse me, but I make my OWN ice cream so…
The whale! Your daughter is amazing. That would make me really happy too!
Nutella self saucing pudding – yes please! I am also going to take a closer look at the food festival and see if there is something that catches my eye.
