Why I have it: Spotted on this list.

Summary: A fictional conversation between a mother and the teenage son she lost to suicide.

I’m thinking: No.

The Hiding Game by Naomi Wood

Why I have it: Because EVERYONE is reading it.

Summary: Germany, 1922 – love, rivalry and escalating political tensions in the Bauhaus art school.

I’m thinking: Yes

Beside Myself by Sasha Marianna Salzmann

Why I have it: I think I spotted it at DW but can’t find the reference…

Summary: Story of a family across four generations, with a woman searching for her twin brother at the heart.

I’m thinking: No.

  1. I think you’ll love The Hiding Game. I’ve considered the Yiyun Li but I’m not sure: I don’t doubt the emotion would be powerful, but I’ve heard the writing is repetitive and abstract.

  2. I’ve just this minute finished The Hiding Game and am still thinking my way through it. I think for me it is a book that needs a second read because I was forever stopping to check on points to do with the art of the Bauhaus and the history of the period. It might be an idea to do a bit of background reading before you start.
