TV series (which is saying a lot because I loved the book).
- visually, a beautiful production (especially Nella, who is portrayed as a splash of colour against the dark backdrop of 17th century Amsterdam)
- the gothic element (the miniaturist) works better on screen (it was sometimes a stretch in the book)
- the final scenes, which are memorable in the book, are absolutely gut-wrenching on screen.
Book. TV series. (it’s free to watch on SBS in Australia).
I’m with you here and I loved the book, too, although I’m pretty sure some of that adoration was thanks to my fondness for Amsterdam.
I agree! I liked the book but didn’t love it, & I thought the tv series was stunning.
I didn’t realise it was also a TV series!
I preferred the TV series too – I found the book rather confusing and so much made sense when I saw the programme!
I had not read the book but went ahead and watched the TV series anyway when it was shown here in the U.S. I liked the show a lot but, as usual, thought the book would probably be better. Thanks.
Yes! Absolutely agree. I loved this TV series.
