It’s time for #6degrees. Start at the same place as other wonderful readers, add six books, and see where you end up.
This month we begin with the children’s classic, Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak (thanks to Sue at Whispering Gums for this suggestion).
My first link is to Dave Eggers’s take on the Sendak classic – The Wild Things.
I first read Eggers way back in 2000, when he released A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. My memory of the book was that it lived up to its title in every way, and it’s one that I have considered re-reading… but will it be as good the second time around?
In the same category is Donna Tartt’s The Secret History. I devoured it in 1992 – would it hold up a second time?
My next link is to Donna Tartt’s last book, The Goldfinch. I loved it and I can’t wait to see the movie.
Another book that I’ve read that has recently been made into a movie is The Chaperone by Laura Moriarty. The book fell flat for me but I think it would make a terrific film.
And to continue the book-to-film links, I’ve had The Aftermath by Rhidian Brook in my TBR stack for ages – if only I’d read it before the sumptuous looking film.
To re-read or not? Is the book better than the film? Such vexing questions!
Where will other chains go? Link up below or post your link in the comments section.
Next month (August 3, 2019), is a wild card – start with the book you’ve ended this month’s chain with (for those playing for the first time, start with the last book you finished reading).

And thanks so much for choosing my selection. I didn’t know what I was going to do with it, but I had such fun.
Haha, what a cheeky starting book for next month too! And since I always use books I’ve read in my chain, that will be two in a row this year that I’ve read. Woo hoo!

I love starting with a picture book. What a good idea. Here is mine. https://kathryngossow.net/2019/07/06/wild-things-and-wild-birds/
Forgive me, you know I used to be a teacher-librarian and I couldn’t resist it…

I added my link to the linky but here it is again. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2019/07/06/6degrees-of-separation-for-july-6-2019/ (LOVE this meme!)
Thank you for this book challenge I always find new books to read which I’d probably never discover otherwise.
Off to check the others now.

I adore Where the Wild Things Are🙂 The Goldfinch has been in my TBR forever because the size keeps putting me off, but I really must get to it…
I loved The Secret History too – not sure how I’d feel about it now!

How brave of Dave Eggers to write his own version of this classic. My link below:

I know what you mean about The Secret History. I’ve a horrible feeling that it wouldn’t have the same effeact on me that it did at the time. As with all sucesses, literary and otherwise, it’s spawned a zillion imitations, too.
Blimey, a wild card… That’ll make for some even more diverse chains than usual.
My chain took another route but ended with the same book as yours 🙂
That doesn’t happen often!

Excited by the wild card for next month – which I read AFTER I’d constructed this month’s chain!

We don’t share any books, but in the case of one of my chosen books, I thought the movie was more enjoyable than the book.

I love this monthly exercise: Here’s my list for this month: http://www.notesinthemargin.org/weblog/2019/07/06/6-degrees-of-separation-from-where-the-wild-things-are-to-under-the-lake/
I tried to comment on your post but something stopped me saying that you don’t allow people to comment from behind proxies – which is strange because I don’t use a proxy! Anyhow… I like your word association for your chain!
Thanks for both comments, Davida. Someone else once mentioned the proxy thing. Since I have only a vague notion of what a proxy is (in this context), I have no idea what this actually means and where I find the setting to fix the problem. Now that we have completed our moving process (just across the street, but still disruptive), I’ll have to see what I can find out about this issue. Thanks again.
Me too, it blocked my comment, Probably just needs a tweak.
Argh! My comment was blocked as well!
Very strange…
Thanks for all the comments. I did find a setting that I think was the culprit and unchecked its box. I’m keeping my fingers crossed until next month. . . Anyway, thanks to all for reading.
Hopefully that’s done the trick!
I enjoyed The Secret History, but I’m not sure whether I would want to read it again. I still haven’t read The Goldfinch, though!

Thanks for the reminder about the movie The Chaperone. I thought the book was so-so but I agree with you that it should make for a good movie!
An interesting selection of links.
My chain is made up of short stories, at https://cathum.wordpress.com/2019/07/08/6degrees-where-the-wild-things-are/
It’s been fun to jump back into this again. I’ve added my link to the linky but here it is again: https://acornerofcornwall.com/2019/07/07/six-degrees-of-separation-from-where-the-wild-things-are-to/#more-11248 Be warned – it’s a long ramble!
