Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye. This week, all three books are titles from my ‘I’m waiting for…’ list.
The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin
Summary: New York, 1969 and the four Gold children visit a psychic to hear their fortunes. The prophecies inform their next five decades.
I’m thinking: Yes – I have always been fascinated by the fate/ destiny/ control tangle.
Our Lady of the Prairie by Thisbe Nissen
Summary: An affair turns the life of long-married professor and mother of an unstable daughter, Phillipa Maakestad, upside down.
I’m thinking: Maybe (but could be a bit melodramatic).
Girls Burn Brighter by Shobha Rao
Summary: A friendship between two girls, Poornima and Savitha, gives hope as one struggles to come to terms with her mother’s death, and the other dreams of an escape from the life she is expected to live.
I’m thinking: No (it’s a style thing).
The Immortalists is one of my books of 2018. Lives up to all the brouhaha!
I second Susan. It’s on my Best of list for the year.
Yes to The Immortalists – I want to read it myself!
I loved The Immortalists!
I remember Susan’s review of The Immortalists, so although I’ve not read it, that’s the one that gets my vote!
