Sample Saturday – a dangerous affair, memories, and loneliness

Sample Saturday is when I wade through the eleventy billion samples I have downloaded on my Kindle. I’m slowly chipping away and deciding whether it’s buy or bye.

Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough

Why I have it: Because Cleo gave it five stars.

Summary: A love/ friendship triangle that has sinister undertones.

I’m thinking: No, too many immediate suspense-scene-setters.

The Sarah Book by Scott McClanahan

Why I have it: No idea.

Scott McClanahan’s continuation of the portrait he’s been writing over the years about his life in West Virginia. This one describes his wife, Sarah.

I’m thinking: Yes – intrigued by the semi-autobiographical style and the opening line is an attention-grabber – “I was the best drunk driver in the world.”

The End of Loneliness by Benedict Wells

Why I have it: No idea.

Summary: The lives of three siblings are shattered by their parents’ death. Each grieves in a different way and eventually they become estranged from one another.

I’m thinking: No, didn’t grab me.
