I’m waiting for…

Commitment to reduce the TBR stack…? What commitment?

For the superb covers alone:

Ms Ice Sandwich by Mieko Kawakami
Neon in Daylight by Hermione Hoby
Call Me Zebra by Azareen Van der Vliet Oloomi

From authors I’ve read (and loved) before:

The Shepherd’s Hut by Tim Winton
My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh
The Recovering: Intoxication and Its Aftermath by Leslie Jamison
The Female Persuasion by Meg Wolitzer
You Think It, I’ll Say It: Stories by Curtis Sittenfeld

The books that I am already seeing EVERYWHERE:

Tangerine by Christine Mangan
Everything Here Is Beautiful by Mira T. Lee
The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin
The Gunners by Rebecca Kauffman
An American Marriage by Tayari Jones

If I tell myself that it’s reading for uni, I won’t feel so bad about reading when I should be studying, right?

Because We Are Bad: OCD and a Girl Lost in Thought by Lily Bailey
Swearing Is Good for You: The Amazing Science of Bad Language by Emma Byrne
A Kind of Mirraculas Paradise: A True Story About Schizophrenia by Sandra Allen

For something light (and hopefully funny):

How Hard Can It Be? by Allison Pearson
Laura & Emma by Kate Greathead
Our Lady of the Prairie by Thisbe Nessen
The Intermission by Elyssa Friedland

Not my usual thing but I’m curious:

White Houses by Amy Bloom
Some Hell by Patrick Nathan
Sight by Jessie Greengrass
How to Be Safe by Tom McAllister

Ticking a few boxes in my reading challenges will be:

Happiness by Aminatta Forna
Eventide by Therese Bohman
Invitation to a Bonfire by Adrienne Celt
Girls Burn Brighter by Shobha Rao
Rainbirds by Clarissa Goenawan
You All Grow Up and Leave Me by Piper Weiss

  1. I think I am going to have to pretend that there is a world paper shortage of cataclysmic proportions which means that no new books can be published in 2018. That’s the only way to avoid my purchasing going wild since I have the resistance of a gnat.

    • I had a book-buying ban in 2016 and once I got through the first few months, it was a cinch – found I tuned-out of all the ‘new release noise’. I think with your 2018 ‘naked reading’ approach, you’ll find you do the same (that is, tune out of what publishers are pushing and tune in to what you feel like reading).
