- Poum and Alexandre by Catherine de Saint Phalle
- An Isolated Incident by Emily Maguire
- The Museum of Modern Love by Heather Rose
- Dying: A Memoir by Cory Taylor
When the longlist was announced in February, I began working my way through it, without trying to guess at what would make the shortlist. So, how did I go? Of the shortlist, I’ve read two, am reading one, own two more and need to get my hands on one.
And although it’s one I haven’t read, my early call is that Beneba Clarke will take out the prize…
The Hate Race seems like it’d be a sure win too. The Museum of Modern Love sounds excellent too.. I see you’re reading it now. Hope you’re enjoying it. 🙂
I think the time is right for The Hate Race.
Museum is interesting – it’s an ‘art novel’ (a genre I’ve had mixed success with) but so far, this one is beautifully written.

Oh dear, I’ve read none! And none on the Baileys long list either. This is what comes of buying only second hand books, I have to wait for them to filter through – I’ve managed to get copies of 2 on the Baileys at least. I’ll look forward to hearing your thoughts on the ones you haven’t read yet, no doubt adding to my TBR list for when I’m scouring charity bookshelves!
I haven’t read any of the Baileys either… this is what comes from book-buying-bans. I’ll read all of these but will probably wait for the Baileys shortlist before tackling any of those.
Ive not read any of the Stella list either but somehow have managed to read two from the Baileys…
I went nuts on the library website yesterday reserving books from the Bailey’s list! I have read two already – and didn’t love them. A few were already on my radar but I’m hoping to discover some new (to me) authors. As for stella- have only read Museum of modern love and was impressed with the writing and the scope.
As soon as the Stella longlist was announced I was poised over my library loans online service – managed to get them nearly all via the library.
I have a couple of the Baileys longlist books but will wait for the shortlist before I make a solid attempt to read more.
I’ve had my eye on Between a Wolf and a Dog for a little while. The others are unfamiliar to me apart from through your reviews, Kate.
I’m really looking forward to the Blain and suspect it will be a strong contender. Of the fiction on the list (Blain, Rose and Maguire), I didn’t rave about the Maguire (others did) and I’m halfway through the Rose – it’s pretty amazing. Still, if you look at how they hand these things out, I think it’s non-fictions turn.
I’m leaning towards Georgia Blain’s judging by our customers comments so far.
It’s one of the ones I haven’t read yet but I’m really looking forward to it.
