Happy New Year lovely people!
I’m not mad on resolutions… Not ones that aren’t achievable, anyway. Things like ‘have more belly laughs with dear friends’ and ‘attend excellent dinner parties’ are fine.
And reading resolutions fall into the same category, although this year I’m aiming to tick something off my reading bucket-list – War & Peace (with the help of the Serial Reader app).
I’ve also been wishing to get a cookbook book group together (a bunch of friends all cook from the same cookbook and you sample the results – voila! Catered book group!). Perhaps 2017 is the year.
Hope 2017 is fabulous.

I do love your type of resolutions – and the cookbook idea sounds fab!
The cookbook idea sounds amazing!! Wishing you a very happy new year!
No, I don’t really do resolutions either. I prefer to do a recap at the end of the year – particularly in terms of what new thing/s did I do or learn this year? Except as I get to be an older dog these days there seems to be fewer of these “new” things. Still, this year we finally did take the plunge into proper smart phones. (I’ve had a iPad though for over 5 years so I’m not exactly a luddite – I just hate phones, always have). And I did decide to join your 6 Degrees challenge!
My main resolution is simply to try to read more each year than I did the last. And I usually think a people one like try to have more people over for a meal. (I’ll add “and have more belly laughs” to that now!)
Well I’m very glad you’ve joined the 6 Degrees challenge 😀
Yes, I am too – once I got over my “I don’t do challenges” to embrace a new me, I started enjoying it. Can’t wait to see the next starting book on Saturday.
I’ve picked one that I haven’t read but lots of others have. I have found that it doesn’t make much difference if you’ve read the starting book or not.
No, I’ve decided that too. The main thing for me is to have read the books I link to, though I notice that some people don’t even do that, and that’s OK too. It’s all about having fun with books isn’t it.
I sometimes link to books that I haven’t read but they’re usually on my TBR list, so I know a bit about them.
Happy 2017! I’ve just started W&P as I decided 2017 was the year I finally tackled it. I’m actually quite hopeful as so many people seem to love it. I’ll let you know how it goes…
The cookbook club is a brilliant idea!
Given that I’m only reading 10 mins of W& P a day, I reckon you’ll finish well before me!
We’ll see…. it could well be a tortoise and hare scenario if I lose momentum after an enthusiastic start!
I hope 2017 brings you delicious shared eatings. That sounds like a pleasurable resolution. Good food, good company
The cookbook idea is lovely. Hope you can get it off the ground, Kate. And a very happy 2017!
Good luck with War & Peace…I should probably read it at some point too, but the classics are tough for me.
Hopefully this staged approach works for me. I figure if I become engrossed, I’ll switch to the hard copy.
That cookbook group idea is nothing short of genius.
I can’t claim it as my own but what fun!
Once again I learn something g from your post. Never heard of serial reader, but what a great idea!
Another blogger put me onto it (can’t remember who though 😕). There’s heaps of books available through it and although I spent ages researching which translation of War & Peace I should read, once I had it, it sat on my shelf for years! I figure if I start with the Serial app and become engrossed, I’ll switch to the book.
I’ve just started Les Miserables with the Serial Reader app 🙂
Good work. I think we should both be finished by October 😁
It’s just a little bit daunting, but we can totally do this.
I read Les Mis many years ago, over one summer. I guess I could do the same with W&P but fear my attention span is not that great!
Those are excellent resolutions. I’m also hoping to tick off some classics from my list… my bestie is helping nudge me towards finally tackling Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. 🙂
