Lately (summer edition)

rollers

Feeling: Relieved. Very, very relieved. My melanoma results came back all clear. I now have a very big chunk out of my arm and a ferocious scar but it’s better than the alternative.
Making: decisions about uni next year.
Drinking: Pimm’s, in various formats (and all the better with gin).
Reading: Swing Time by Zadie Smith. It’s good.
Watching: nothing really… I need a new show.
Anticipating: my gin tour of Tasmania with my mothers group buds.
Enjoying: this (because we have a hot Christmas, not the white variety).
Loving: all the bloggers and their ‘Best of 2016’ lists.
Crying: about the fact that Barry Gibb has cancelled his 2017 Australian tour #devo
Needing: to quickly get organised for Dec 25 – couldn’t focus until I got my results back.
Coveting: Saint Laurent rollers.
Wearing: yellow. And stripes.
Wanting: a new messenger bag. Send suggestions my way.
Pondering: this article about life and technology by Jonathan Safran Foer.
Aiming: to lock in a family holiday plan for 2017.
Listening: Australian Crawl /James Reyne back collection.

    • Thank you 🙂
Very much looking forward to Tassie – not sure how much history we’ll get to appreciate but we will see the countryside as we head to various distilleries 😀

    • Can’t tell you how relieved I am…
Scar will be a demonstration to kids of why tattoos should be carefully chosen – if I had any ink on my arm, it would now be destroyed!

      • There are clinics springing up all over the place where you can go for an annual skin check and they keep digital photos so that they can compare from year to year. I’ve spent most of my life indoors (with a book) but I still get a checkup anyway, just in case…

      • Yes, my dermatologist has a long visual record of every single mole on my body! Unfortunately I have spent a lot of time outdoors – years swimming and rowing are to blame and I simply have ‘that type of skin’.

    • The whole experience has been a timely reminder to ‘not sweat the small stuff’ – particularly relevant at this time of year when we all go to great lengths to make everything perfect for the holidays/ Christmas. I have a fresh perspective this year (accompanied by being still somewhat incapacitated – my arm is very sore and I can’t do any lifting).

    • I think the odd thing is that because I have regular checks, I’m almost complacent. I’ve had lots of moles removed in the past and I guess just assumed that because I have them checked, it will all be fine. This was a wake-up call because I have the same attitude to mammograms (my mum had breast cancer so I’ve been vigilant since I was 30). I never expect anything at mammograms but I think now I’ll have a different attitude and be more prepared for the “We’ve found something…”. In all of these things, I guess early detection is the key.

      • Right you are. I’m in the same situation with mammograms and my mother — super vigilant, but at the same time, never really expect to hear other than an all clear.

  1. Very glad to hear that you received good news from your test results. I also need a new show. Last time I was trying to pick out a new show I ended up starting a rewatch of Lost which is counterproductive to say the least. I’m on the second to the last season so new show picking will be happening soon again. Maybe I’ll rewatch X-Files this time… hahaha

  2. I’m glad your test results came back clear! Such a relief!

As for new TV shows, I have Netflix and enjoyed Stranger Things and The Crown. I’ve just started Bloodline but am also about to embark on some Nordic Noir on SBS on Demand I think. There’s something called Midnight Sun which looks intriguing.
