01. A few years ago, I had an indulgent trip to Miami – to look at buildings (and lie on the beach). Knowing my family would be unlikely to want to spend days looking at Art Deco facades, stair rails and doors, it was sensible to go solo. After seeing this list, it looks like I need another nine trips.
02. Remember a couple of weeks ago I mentioned footy finals? They won the grand final. By two points. Needless to say, my nerves were shredded.
03. Finished the #20BooksOfSummer reading challenge with a day to spare. Looking back over my list I realised that the reading highlights have been few and far between over the last few months. The best of my twenty books were The Enchanted April by Elizabeth von Arnim, Asking For It by Louise O’Neill, and All the Birds, Singing by Evie Wyld. Sloane Crosley’s essays, I Was Told There’d Be Cake, was good fun as well.
04. The other thing I discovered during the #20BooksOfSummer challenge was that sometimes, a summers day in Belfast is colder than a winters day in Melbourne.
05. East or West? Can’t believe I have never been to the Berlin Bar. What the hell have I been doing?!
06. Assuming the same logic applies to television, right?
07. Can’t tell you how much I’m loving this new Fitbit challenge.
08. This will be made.
09. I really shouldn’t look at blood test results and then hit Dr.Google…

Love the idea of the beach library. It’s Dixon a simple idea that it’s surprising other resorts haven’t picked up on it….
It’s like when you stay at holiday houses and there’s a shelf of tattered paperbacks that are designated beach reading – my dilemma is whether I start a book at the risk of not being able to finish it before the holiday is over and I have to leave the book!
That beach library is a lovely idea. 🙂 although it probably wouldn’t happen to me that I’d end up at the beach without a book 😀

It always kills me after taking a trip that I’d stumble across a list about other awesome places to visit from said place I recently took a trip to and realise I’d have to go back (several more times). I guess it’s something to look forward to, but still, I wish sometimes I’d known beforehand xD
I’m usually fairly thorough when planning a trip but regardless, there’s always something that’s missed. One of my most recent regrets was the Neon Museum in Las Vegas. It had only just opened when I went to Vegas and probably if I’d booked as soon as I arrived in the US I would have got in, however I left it until I was on my way to Vegas and it was too late. The sad fact is I’ll probably never go back to Vegas (although could be tempted for the mushed alone!).
So that’s my next 10 city breaks sorted then 🙂

Can I be the voice of misery/dissent over the beach library? I worry the salt air & sand would cause the books to degrade quickly…
I think my issue with the beach library would be more around the length of borrowing time – you wouldn’t want to be half way through a book but have to stop because of sunburn – do you return the book to the shelf and hope it’s there the next day?? Or does the library only house novellas? Am I overthinking it??
You’re definitely not overthinking it – the horror of a half-finished book that you lose access to *shudder* I don’t think I’m on board with a beach library…
1. There’s a delightful Art Deco building near where I live. It houses a funeral home: http://www.heritagewatchnsw.org.au/gosford—37-mann-street.php There was talk a while ago of it being demolished, but I don’t know if it is now (I really hope not).
2. Congrats on winning the footy final – just about every game my favourite footy team plays in has gone down to the wire this year, so I totally get the nerves thing (although none of the players are my children, I don’t know how you’re still alive).
5. Does the Berlin Bar have a wall down the middle of it or something? The Angela Merkel cocktail sounds pretty tasty.
10. I like the idea of a beach library, it looks lovely.
That funeral home in Gosford is amazing! I had a bit of a scout around and it seems the development threats were raised in 2014 but haven’t progressed – hopefully over. It’s so frustrating that heritage overlays and protection takes so long to ‘catch up’ with what’s happening – around where I live I see amazing mid-century buildings being altered or demolished without restriction. It’s heartbreaking.
Don’t know if there’s a wall inside the Berlin Bar but I’ll report back!
I agree – all the new buildings have zero character and all look the same.
There are so many new developments happening around here, but at the cost of exisiting structures. They demolished a public school a couple of years ago to put in a new government building (I think that’s what was/is going in). It’s a real shame as there are some lovely old buildings on the Central Coast. The library I go to in Woy Woy is my favourite (https://c2.staticflickr.com/4/3856/14443141933_1326e1428c_b.jpg). It doesn’t have a big selection, but it’s so nice to look at.

I’m a bit evangelical about Fitbits. It really was life-changing for me and made me more aware of building ‘incidental’ fitness into my day. It has also meant that I have fewer ‘lazy days’ – can’t bear to look at my steps at the end of the day and see a measly 6000! Great motivation for me.
