Summary: Maya spends her days lying on the couch in her living room, barely living. Her husband has left, her affair is over, she dabbles with heroin and that’s just the start of her problems.

I’m thinking: Yes. It’s chock-full of lines like this:

“I saw the dullness of his eyes, as if he had spent a lifetime staring at the color gray.”

Imagine Me Gone by Adam Haslett

Why I have it: It was on this (terrific) list.

Summary: Knowing her fiancé suffers from severe depression, Margaret carries on with their plans and marries him. Decades later, their eldest son, Michael, is battling his own demons and the whole family becomes involved.

I’m thinking: Yes (read the second chapter titled ‘Michael’ and you’ll add it to your TBR list as well).

Music and Freedom by Zoe Morrison

Why I have it: Seems to be popping up everywhere at the moment.

Summary: Alice, age three, lives on an orange orchard in rural Australia and learns to play the piano.  She’s sent to England to foster her talent. Many years later she meets Edward, who sweeps her off her feet. He’s damaged, she’s trapped and Alice clings to her dream of becoming a concert pianist.

I’m thinking: No (but if #ALLTHEBLOGGERS start talking about it, I could be convinced otherwise because the mad opening chapter was interesting).
