4. Began my first true audiobook yesterday (as opposed to using the fabulous text-to-speech function on my old Kindle) – I’m listening to The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan (and read by Flanagan).

My effort to listen to an audiobook was prompted by this excellent article about the Australian winner of the inaugural Sarah Lawrence College International Audio Fiction Awards (The Sarahs), Rijn Collins. The story behind Collins’s prize-winning story about taxidermy, flamingos and Tom Waits lullabies is great, as is her soundbite on audiobooks –
‘An awareness of how words sound instead of look is crucial.’
6. For the Sweet Valley High enthusiasts out there (and I know they exist), this article about what happens to the twins and their cohort in middle age.
7. For the record, that article was sent to me by a friend who I hadn’t seen in a while. We ran into each other at the local bakery last weekend and she said “I thought of you recently because I read this funny article about Sweet Valley High…”. It’s excellent that people know I have a deep and enduring love for the work of Francine Pascall.
8. I’ve had a weird switcharoo reading experience this week – read one book that everyone raved about and I thought was ordinary, and read another that I loved but that was canned on Goodreads (Penelope by Rebecca Harrington – review to come).
