Bookish (and not so bookish) Thoughts

1. SO MUCH LOVE for the BBC adaption of War and Peace.

2. This tweet made me laugh.

3. Have I ever mentioned that I have a serious bird phobia? It’s actually not just birds, it’s anything with wings, near my head (so butterfly enclosures are a no-go zone).

4. And speaking of Twitter, where will we all go now that the party is over? (Because algorithms for social media suck).

5. The Natural Way of Things by Charlotte Wood is set to become a film. I reckon it will be ace.

6. Activated my first ARC request for the year (according to my self-imposed rules) – Joanna Cannon’s The Trouble with Goats and Sheep.

7. At its peak, the TBR list was at 425, it’s now at 417. Finally heading in the right direction.

8. This exhibition (thanks for the alert Kate, it’s a date).

9. Saw The Danish Girl this week. It was really, really good (except Eddie Redmayne’s exaggerated blinking, which was distracting). Want to read the book* now (but see no. 6 and 7. above).

10. Holy hell. This has my name all over it.

*Also the memoir, Lili: A Portrait of the First Sex Change by Niels Hoyer and Lili Elbe.

  1. Ha! We had a discussion about butterflies on quilt covers once. It all makes sense now. Here’s hoping we don’t have to wait until 2018 for that exhibition. So much excitement about it. D even saved a newspaper article for me. I hope he knows what that means. Flights, cameras, action …

    • My bird phobia began in Venice (thanks to the pigeons in St.Marks square). Really, pigeons are the worst because they are such slow movers (but still very flappy…).

  2. 1. Yes, oh yes.
    3. I’ve met several people who don’t like birds in general, but never for the same reason as you. I like birds (and butterflies and other winged creatures) from afar, but I majorly freak out about things flying around my head.
    7. Great job! I have not yet read a single one of the books I own that I vowed to read before the end of March. I keep getting distracted by all the books at the library.
