I thought the last line of The Other Typist was a game changer.
I remember thinking the last page of The Other Typist was ‘shocking’ but I can’t remember the last line word-for-word… (but I do really love The Other Typist).
I never read the last line first – so wrong! I’ll read this on your recommendation, just to get to the end 🙂 My vote for best last line goes to The Death of Vishnu.
Haven”t read The Death of Vishnu – have to now, obvs.
I think you’ll enjoy Family Life (it’s a quick read and the final line throws the whole thing into a new perspective – my book group LOVED it).
Can’t think of a last line that made a big impact but I reckon the best and devastating last paragraph is Nicholas Monsarrat’s “The Story of Esther Costello”
Another one to add to my reading list…
It was written in the mid 1950s and may be a bit dated, but it is still a very powerful book. I re-read it a few months ago and still found it engrossing.
Now I’ll have to bump this up the reading list just to get to that last line. I can’t think of a memorable last line from a novel but the end of Paradise Lost book nine has stayed with me for years
And another for the reading list!
Family Life is a short and sometimes funny book – well worth your time!

Hmm, now I am very curious. I never read the last line first but, I always read the description or a few reviews if available.
Sorry my review wasn’t very insightful! But honestly, a wonderful book and a great book group choice – lots of elements of the story demand conversation (including the last line!).
