Why I have it: Because Tigers in Red Weather.

Summary: The Jazz Age ‘it crowd’ summer with Gerald and Sara Murphy. There’s artistic genius, debauched parties, impeccable style and tragedy.

I’m thinking: Yes. Because Tigers in Red Weather and the Fitzgeralds.

Mink River by Brian Doyle

Why I have it: No idea but I’m not a fan of that bird on the cover (because bird phobia).

Summary: A small town on the Oregon coast – love affairs and almost-love-affairs, mystery and hilarity, bears and tears, brawls and boats, a garrulous logger and a silent doctor, rain and pain, an expedition is mounted, a crime committed, and there’s an unbelievably huge picnic on the football field.

I’m thinking: Yes. It’s odd but distinctive.

The Last Act of Love by Cathy Rentzenbrink

Why I have it: I follow the author on Twitter (and did so for years before she was published).

Summary: In the summer of 1990, Cathy Rentzenbrink’s brother Matty was knocked down by a car on the way home from a night out, suffering serious head injuries. He was left in a permanent vegetative state. Over the following years, Cathy and her parents took care of Matty but there came a point at which it seemed the best thing they could do for him was let him go. This is their story.

I’m thinking: Yes. Fairly sure it will make me cry.
