I wasn’t going to participate in Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by The Broke and the Bookish) this week simply because talking about what books are at the top of my TBR list is ludicrous given this…. The situation is made all the more ridiculous by the fact that I have 40-something unread ARCs in my NetGalley queue and let’s not even get started on the ‘virtual’ TBR stack on my Kindle.
But then I read Bookshelf Fantasies ace post on choosing vacation reading – there was a poll! I loved it! I voted! I stole Lisa’s idea! Here it is!
Please vote – it will decide the order of (some) of my TBR stack.
Note that it may not be the freshest, shiniest bunch of new releases but all of the books I’ve listed have been sitting on my shelf since last year and all qualify for my Off the Shelf reading challenge… And if I complete this challenge I’ll feel justified in spending up big on new books at the end of the year. Yay!

Penelope is funny (and incredibly awkward), but sort of pointless – I liked it, but would put it around 5ish. I refuse to read Me Before You, I look forward to your opinion. My vote goes to Little Children (because it sounds good and there’s a movie). I have a Perrotta in my stack as well.
The fact that Me Before You has been sitting in my TBR stack for ages speaks volumes… Not really the sort of book I’d ordinarily go for but one of my trusted reading friends said it was really good, so…
I have seen the movie of Little Children. It has taken me many years to recover (movie very, very good but highly disturbing). I only now feel ready for the book. I read ‘Election’ years ago and enjoyed it. Not sure why I haven’t read more of his stuff because I read his book blurbs and they all sound really good. Which one do you have in your TBR stack?
I have The Abstinence Teacher, I don’t know when I’ll get to it, but it was only .25 cents…

Not surprised that Me Before You and Gone Girl are the favourites – I’ll read all ten books eventually but true to my word, I’ll read in the order that the bloggers picked. So, it looks like Me Before You is up next (will you scream if I love it?!)

Given all the hype, I’m predisposed to being an extra-tough critic when it comes to Gone Girl.
We’re only have way through 2013, but I am SO tired of hearing ‘this year’s Gone Girl’. I hear it now and think ‘nope, not touching that one’.
But better than hearing “If you liked Fifty Shades of Grey…” 😉

Me Before You is Good and Little Children are both really good!
I haven’t read any of these titles but some of them are on my want-to-read list! And some of them look really interesting, I’m going to have to check them out on GoodReads. The Snow Child looks interesting and Me Before You has been getting a lot of good buzz…maybe I’ll vote for the latter (then I can pop on by and read what you thought of it, lol ;))

Me Before You is a stunning read. I judged it by its cover… I shouldn’t have done!
Funny you mention the cover because none of the covers of any of the editions of this book appeal to me at all!
Chose Me Before You because it’s one of my fav reads. Gone Girl was nuts!

I have to tell you The Good Parents got universally panned at my book club. Jim Kokoris gets my vote.
That’s interesting to know about The Good Parents – I think it’s in my TBR stack because I read an interview with an Australian author who raved about it (just can’t remember who…)
Added Rich Part of Life based on your recommendation – I particularly like reading books recommended by authors (hmmm… See above!) E.g. Every book that Charlotte Wood has suggested (via Twitter) has been sensational. My reasons for liking author recs are probably too long-winded and boring for this forum!

As for The Snow Child and Gone Girl, I really want to read those but think of them as more of curl-under-the-covers type books. So I’ll read them in the fall/winter.

I’ve not read it but I’ve heard so many really good things about Gone Girl – my history teacher said it was the best thing she’d read all year!

Me Before You is not my normal go-to genre and I was surprised at how much I actually liked it, but ‘liked’ it isn’t the right term because it’s freaking HEART-BREAKING. I think my emotions went all haywire and convinced my brain that it was good. Either way, my vote goes to The Snow Child because the writing was so beautiful. Gone Girl was a bit of a disappointment considering all the rave reviews.
Me Before You not my usual thing either but a friend (who knows I like a good cry) said I HAVE to read it… Have found the schmaltzy cover off-putting but that seems like a fairly weak reason for not reading it! The Snow Child got such wonderful reviews when it first came out – it’s winter in Melbourne now so probably an appropriate time to read it!
I haven’t read any of them. But I think The Snow Child sounds very interesting.
