Okay, so I failed horribly with Mount TBR 2012… I came to it a little too late and a little too hard. Had I aimed for Pike’s Peak instead of Mount Vancouver, I would have made it… Would of… Should of… Could of…
With that in mind, I’m not going to burst out of the blocks in 2013 by signing up for oodles of reading challenges that I can’t complete.
Instead, I’ve carefully considered all that are on offer (and there are lots from Book Bingo, colour-coded challenges, reading by genre and challenges that let you be an armchair traveller, to name a few) and picked out a few to focus on:
1. Australian Women Writer’s Challenge
I’m always a supporter of Australian authors and locally published books so this challenge is a must. I’ve signed up for the Miles level and pledged to read and review six books by Australian female authors.
2. What’s in a Name hosted by Beth Fish Reads
This challenge is a little quirky – read one book that fits each of the six ‘categories’. The fun is in the odd categories. For example, one is ‘something you’d find in your kitchen’ and another is a ‘party or celebration’. When I read through each of the categories, titles immediately sprang to mind so I couldn’t say no to this challenge.
3. Off the Shelf hosted by Bookish Ardour
The same concept as Mount TBR, Off the Shelf promotes reading the books on your shelves that have been sitting there for far too long. Challenge levels range from five books to two hundred. If I could read two hundred books in a year, then that’s the level I’d be aiming for but common sense prevails and I’m going for the ‘Making a Dint’ level that will see 30 books disappear from my to-be-read stack.
Now if I mention entering any more reading challenges, please send me a virtual slap – the aim is to finish what I start this year!
